Lead Engineer | Hybrid role 2 days per week (Central London)
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer to join our clients team. As a Lead Engineer, you will take a leadership role in overseeing our DNS infrastructure and driving the optimization and security of our clients new cyber security platform. You will utilize your expertise in DNS software, virtualized environments, Linux administration, and automation to ensure optimal performance and maintain a secure environment. Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the DNS infrastructure, working with DNS software such as Bind, Unbound, PowerDNS, or similar.
- Manage and optimize virtualized environments with a focus on Linux/KVM Hypervisors.
- Utilize expertise in OpenStack and VMware to drive efficient and scalable virtualization solutions.
- Maximize server performance through advanced Linux administration and performance tuning techniques.
- Implement security measures by customizing Linux kernels and creating highly secure environments.
- Utilize Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible/Terraform/Salt) to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Work with containerization tools such as Docker to enhance system scalability and flexibility.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS, to support hybrid cloud deployments.
- Employ enterprise-grade monitoring solutions (e.g., DataDog, CheckMK, Zabbix) to ensure optimal system performance and availability.
- Develop and maintain scripts in Python, Perl, or Bash to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Adhere to ITIL best practices and possess an understanding of ISO compliance standards.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, load balancing, firewalling, TCP/IP stack, subnetting, and LAN separation.
- Manage hardware infrastructure, including equipment racking, vendor coordination, and equipment replacement.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of engineers.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with DNS at scale using DNS software such as Bind, Unbound, PowerDNS, or similar.
- Expert knowledge in virtualized environments with hands-on experience on Linux/KVM Hypervisors.
- Strong understanding of OpenStack and VMware technologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Linux administration, automation, and performance tuning.
- Extensive experience in securing Linux environments and customizing kernels.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Salt.
- Experience with containerization tools like Docker is a plus.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS, is beneficial.
- Proficient in utilizing enterprise-grade monitoring solutions like DataDog, CheckMK, Zabbix, etc.
- Scripting experience in languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash.
- Familiarity with ITIL best practices and ISO compliance standards.
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Proficient in hardware management, including equipment racking and vendor coordination.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to a team.
