GCHQ Summer School launched

Applications are open for a ten-week cyber-security education summer programme, as part of GCHQ’s initiative to bolster UK security and ensure its future by recruiting cyber-intelligence professionals. Aimed at first and second year students already studying computer science, courses will focus on insight from GCHQ cyber-security specialists, as well as top industry experts.

Though the need for recruits is severe (more than one million cyber-security positions remain unfilled, according to Cisco’s 2014 Annual Security Report), the program’s qualifying process is rigorous, requiring applicants to prove their advanced coding skills, abilities to solve complex data problems, and demonstrate aptitude for working both on teams and independently.

The certificate-track curriculum will focus on building advanced technical skills and exploring the role of cyber-security both nationally and internationally, finishing with live exercises that will challenge the students‘ newly acquired skills.
